A whole variety of things in Britain seem to have ground to a halt:
- Compensation for victims of the Post Office scandal.
- Compensation for victims of contaminated blood.
- Extradition of migrants not given asylum.
- Planning applications for Thames crossing or HS2
- The paralysis in the police so that crimes are not investigated.
- Police are unable to act for fear of Human Rights legislation.
- Border Force do not detain illegal immigrants, but the system put them in hotels.
- Prolonged cases in Family Court.
What all these have in common is ‘bloat’. Their systems have become so complex that they now require an army of ‘experts’ to interpret the law.
Bloated government
There has been a multiplication of government with no evidence that it has improved outcomes for people:
- Devolution to Scotland and Wales
- Local mayors.
- Far too many peers in the House of Lords (nearly 800 in 2025).
